چکیده

This paper presents an introduction to and a formal connection between synthesis problems for discrete event systems that have been considered, largely separately, in the two research communities of supervisory control in control engineering and reactive synthesis in computer science. By making this connection mathematically precise in a paper that attempts to be as self-contained as possible, we wish to introduce these two research areas to non-expert readers and at the same time to highlight how they can be bridged in the context of classical synthesis problems. After presenting general introductions to supervisory control theory and reactive synthesis, we provide a novel reduction of the basic supervisory control problem, non-blocking case, to a problem of reactive synthesis with plants and with a maximal permissiveness requirement. The reduction is for fully-observed systems that are controlled by a single supervisor/controller. It complements prior work that has explored This work was primarily supported by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) Expeditions in Computing project ExCAPE: Expeditions in Computer Augmented Program Engineering (grant CCF-1138860). Bridging the Gap between Supervisory Control and Reactive Synthesis: Case of Full Observation and Centralized Control

We present a formal connection between supervisory control theory in the field of control engineering and reactive synthesis in the field of formal methods. We focus on the case of fully-observed discrete-event systems that are controlled by a single controller/supervisor in order to achieve a safety specification and a non-blocking specification. The connection is shown by a reduction of the c...

On the Relation between Reactive Synthesis and Supervisory Control of Non-Terminating Processes

Reactive synthesis and supervisory control theory both provide a design methodology for the automatic and algorithmic design of digital systems from declarative specifications. The reactive synthesis approach originates in computer science, and seeks to synthesise a system that interacts with its environment over time and that, doing so, satisfies a prescribed specification. Here, the distingui...

This paper provides an overview of a computationally eecient method for synthesizing supervisory controllers for discrete event systems (DES). The DES plant and controller are described by Petri nets which provide a useful linear algebraic model for both control analysis and synthesis. It is shown how a set of linear constraints on the plant's behavior can be enforced, accounting for possibly u...

Regulation of Financial System in Iran: A Comparative Evaluation

Regulation and supervision is the main prerequisite for the stability of financial systems. Financial supervision consists of four elements: supervisory rules and regulations, supervisory structure, supervisory performance, and independence of supervisory institutions. The recent international financial crisis has made many countries to restructure the regulation and supervision architecture of...

Improving evolvability of a patient communication control system using state-based supervisory control synthesis

Supervisory control theory enables control system designers to specify a model of an uncontrolled system in combination with associated control requirements, and subsequently to use a synthesis algorithm for automatic controller generation. The use of supervisory control synthesis can significantly reduce development time for supervisory controllers as a result of the unambiguous specification ...
